«Cycling against Landmines»
From Lake Geneva to The Dead Sea,
Armin Köhli’s incredible cycling challenge
Cycling 4800 Km across 13 Countries
The double amputee and exceptional cyclist
Armin Köhli met the challenge of covering
a 4800 km bike tour across Europe
and the Middle East.
He left from Geneva on October 1 2007
and arrived in Jordan on November 18,
where the 8th Meeting of State Parties to the Ottawa
Convention against landmines took place.
By accomplishing this feat, Armin Köhli managed
to raise public and media awareness of the fight
against the scourge of landmines, which causes 15'000
victims every year worldwide, including many children.
To this end, events took place along the course of journey
to allow Armin Köhli to meet young people, mine
victims and political and media representatives
in different countries.
The project coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Ottawa Treaty banning the use, production and transfer of antipersonnel landmines.

Countries crossed: Switzerland, France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan.

Armin Köhli: an Exceptional Cyclist
Provided with artificial limbs after loosing both legs in an accident, the Swiss cyclist Armin Köhli regularly participates in professional sporting competitions in Switzerland and abroad.
For the past four years he has dedicated his cycling to the fight against landmines by taking part in various projects.
